Need for Translation

There are so many things we take for granted in the west, where centuries of Gospel preaching has had so much effect on the culture: - Easy access to a reliably translated Bible, Churches with trained pastors, Assemblies with experienced, Godly elders, role models, Bible Schools, Bible Commentaries, inspiring autobiographies, packed bookshops, teaching resources, the list could go on. It is not until you go to Armenia that you realise just how much we have! Seventy years of Communism has had its effect on Armenia, too. Unfortunately, a Christian heritage was not one of the things it left behind! After its fall over 20 years ago, there was a great move of the Spirit on the country and many were saved. Of course, we all praise God for such a revival. But churches full of young Christians have their own, special needs. How can these people be grounded in the Word of God, so that they will be able to stand in the day of difficulty? Who will teach? Who will lead? Who will be an example to them? We believe much can be accomplished through the written word.

Bible translation

Armenian New Testament & Psalms
Armenian New Testament & Psalms.

The main project is the translation of the Holy Scriptures into the Eastern Armenian language. This is a led by Sona Pambakian and is a joint venture with the Trinitarian Bible Society, London. Since the translation of the New Testament and Pslams were completed a couple of years ago, thousands have been printed and distributed in Armenia. Meanwhile, work on the Old Testament continues. As you can imagine, a project of this magnitude requires a huge amount of time, hard work and dedication. Please pray for Sona and the rest of the translators who are working on this vital task. We look forward to the day when the complete Bible is available in the Eastern Armenian language.

Other current projects

Apart from the Bible, we are currently translating or have permission to translate a wide range of other Christian materials. The list below gives more specific details of some of these.

  • Each year, we translate the "Words of Life" calendars, produced by the Trinitarian Bible Society, into Armenian. TBS very kindly print a large number of these for us to freely distribute in Armenia.
  • The Roy Hession Book Trust has kindly given us permission to translate all ten books by Roy Hession into Armenian. Work is currently being done on two of his books, "We would see Jesus" and "The Calvary Road".
  • A selection of tracts by evangelist, Roger Carswell, have been translated over the years, many of which have been reprinted a number of times to meet demand in Armenia.
  • We have translated the book "Give me this Mountain" by Helen Roseveare. This is awaiting proof-reading and publication.
  • Permission has been obtained to translate a number of books by Isobel Kuhn including "By Searching" and "Nests above the Abyss".
  • A selection of hymns, both old and new, are being translated and collated into a song book for use in the churches in Armenia.

Past projects

  • Translation of the New Tribes Mission “Children’s Edition, Firm Foundations: Creation to Christ” course. This excellent course consists of 40 lessons, printed on the back of an A3 size picture, so children can see the picture and the teacher can use the notes on the back. The course builds a foundation of truth in its hearers, taking each Bible story and placing it in its historical and spiritual context. These lessons were printed in a large quantity and supplied free of charge by the Revival Movement & Every Home Crusade, Belfast. We were extremely grateful for this generous and immensely useful contribution.
  • "Out of the Ark", a biographical book by Rhoda Carswell, which describes the plight of her family during the Armenian massacres in the early part of last century, was translated and distributed in Armenia.
